About the Fit-Kids Program
Our family-oriented weight management program is for
children. The program works with both parents and children to provide
families with the education, resources, and support they need to make
positive lifestyle changes. The comprehensive program encourages
behavior change in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, and
self-esteem.
Nutrition Component You and your child will learn basic nutrition
through interactive activities, fun games, and healthy cooking and snack
making. This is one class your child will not want to miss. Each week
a new nutritional topic is covered and your family will learn how to
implement healthy dietary changes into your lifestyle.
Physical Activity Component Many kids are not thrilled about the
thought of exercising that is why Fit-Kids combines physical activity
with fun. Twice a week, our instructor leads fun filled classes that
will keep your child moving. Instead of using fitness machines, we use
balls, jump ropes, hula-hoops, cones, and Frisbees to engage our
Fit-Kids in fun physical activity. When the kids are having fun,
exercising doesn’t seem like such a chore. Parents and kids will also
learn fun exercises they can do together at home. Pedometers are used
to help families keep track of their physical activity and to encourage
increased physical activity.
Self-Esteem Component Weekly, the class will participate in a group
activity, which is geared towards self-esteem building. We highlight
your child’s unique talents and help them reassess their weaknesses.
Parent Support Group Component Lifestyle changes are not easy, however,
these changes are not as hard when you are surrounded by motivation and
support. Fit-Kid parents attend a weekly support group led by Dr. Catt.
A number of predetermined topics will be covered, however, there is
also plenty of time to include individual parent concerns. With a
network of support, change is much easier.
